Details about KEEN's adaptive sports program offerings in NYC

Of the four programs I included on this website, KEEN is the one I recommend the most!

  • KEEN: Kids Enjoy Exercise Now

    • Ages 5-21 w/ physical and developmental disabilities 

    • Free, volunteer-run, non-competitive

    • Tailored to each athlete’s needs

    • Seasonal: fall, winter, spring, summer

    • Mission: Empower youth with disabilities and impact volunteer coaches through participation in free, non-competitive, one-on-one programs of physical activity and fun, supporting the overall health and well-being of all participants.

    • Programs change seasonally

    • Fall Season Programs

    • KEEN Sports:

      • Loosely-structured sports activities

      • Free play opportunities

      • Activities: hoops, scooters, t-ball, soccer, relay, ball play, etc

    • KEEN Yoga: 

      • Poses taught in way that is accessible to all athletes + modifications for individual needs

      • Music + stories incorporated

    • KEEN Swin: 

      • Swim, splash, play in water

      • Life jackets and pool toys

      • Supervised, no prior swim training needed

      • Rarely instructional, mostly for getting used to water

    • KEEN Fit:

      • Fitness program for teens

      • Each athlete paired w volunteer to assist w/ exercises

    • KEEN Basketball:

      • Shooting, ball handling, footwork

      • Team setting

      • 1-on-1 sessions between athlete and volunteer

    • KEEN Dance:

      • Session leader facilitates dance options

      • Also guides athletes in movement exercises

    • Also have cooking classes, online classes

    • Other sports: flag football, soccer

    • Online sessions Fridays at 5 pm for Dance

    • In-person activities all day Saturdays and Sundays
